This is the time of year when those pesky little ants tend to become problematic, taking over areas of both the garden and home. Many people, including myself, do not want to resort to using pesticides so by getting rid of them the natural way it is by far the best method. Below I have included a list of all natural ways to get rid of ants without having to worry about your child, dog or cat getting harmed by the usage of pesticides. In choosing these natural methods I went beyond just getting rid of the ants but with each of the methods I have chosen they also have another benefit in using them, from enriching the soil to natural weed killers. Read on to find out more.

Coffee grounds
Placing old coffee grounds around your gardens stones, bricks or directly on their nest not only gets rid of them it kills them! I'm not quite sure how this works but it is 100% effective and works like a charm. Another benefit of coffee grounds when placing them around your garden is that they also feed and enrich the soil, giving your plants an added boost.
Windex
This method is a bit more potent and you may want to be more careful as to where you spray it but again this is also 100% effective and like the saying goes kills bugs dead. Another benefit of Windex is that it also kills earwigs with the same effect!
Black pepper
This is a great and very safe method to repel the those pesky little ants away from your home and gardens. They will stay away from any areas that has pepper sprinkled on top, such as your door way or the ground where you want to save particular plants such as peonies. Another benefit to pepper is that it not only deters ants but also is acts as a repellent to animals such as foxes, skunks, dogs and cats.
Mint
Mint is a great way to deter ants away from your home. By planting it around your house you will have three benefits, one the ants will not come near it, two it will make your entrance ways and areas near your home smell wonderful and three it is on hand to pick if wanting to use it.
Vinegar
Vinegar is a natural ant repellent. Just put some in a spray bottle and spray any areas they may be getting in. Another great things about vinegar is that it is a natural glass cleaner and work wonderfully.
Boiling water and salt
This is the harshest of all ways to get rid of ants but it does work. Just add couple of tablespoons of salt to boiling water, pour it over the nest and you can be rest assured they will not make it out. Also another benefit of boiling water and salt is that it is a natural weed killer so if you have any walkways ants may be residing, it will kill both the ants and the pesky weeds.

thanks for this link.. its always best NOT to use pesticides but not just for our pets.. also because of wild life (birds).. and kids and ourselves.. the more chemicals we use as a society the great rates of cancer and asthma we see...

Great advice; these all sound very effective and it's great that they're natural.
this was a really helpful article but I still don't think I could kill them! but then again they are not in my home. I will definitely be trying the boiling water and salt on my weeds though.
Great ideas. I have been using diazonon (sp?) for ants but would prefer something else. I am going to try some of these ideas.
